Students in this college will all study Mandarin as a core-subject.
It'll be the first in Britain to introduce Mandarin as a compulsory subject.

'It's like singing'

One thing that is easier in Mandarin is the grammar.

"The grammar is not nearly as complicated as many European languages," says Dr Weightman. "For example there are no verb tenses, no relative clauses, no singular or plural."

The number of people in the UK learning Mandarin has gone up considerably in recent years, she adds.

"It really appeals to kids, they find the different characters fun and grasp the different tones well, it's like singing for them. The more we demystify the language, the more people will learn it. At the moment it is still seen as exotic and a bit strange, which can put people off. But that's changing."

Sorry, haven't been updating for ages. Busy preparing for exam... arrgh, finally core units are done. Now left with electives... Pharmacology. lol... Been very tired today after BMS3011 exam... taking a break. Start studying tomorrow???
Just now i ate 김치찌개... (Kimchi Stew) ok only, it is also quite 비싸요... sourish and spicy with only 3 pieces of tofu and a lot of kim chi. My gosh...
And by the way, if you buy a packet of kimchi chigae INSTANT NOODLE packet by NongShim. TASTE THE SAME!!!! Aaarrgh!!!!

Garkk... Bought this daifuku ice-cream from clayton Town. It wrote there.. 21 pieces so i thought its okay for its price (not cheap). So excited when i brought it back...

and once open....

The daifuku is the size of a 50 cents coin. Dang it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One shot into the mouth and its gone... Haiz, but still not bad lar.

3 flavors - Vanilla, Green Tea and Chocolate. Each coated with 'daifuku' a kind of sticky rice cake.

Can Oxygen for sale in JAPAN??

Japanese convenience store operator Seven-Eleven Japan has breathed fresh air into its product lineup by announcing it will add cans of oxygen to its shelves. The idea behind the product is to allow buyers to replenish their oxygen levels anytime they feel a lack of it due to stress, fatigue, or other factors. Normal air contains only about 21% oxygen, but the oxygen concentration in the cans is 95%, and breathing it in can reportedly bring on a feeling of invigoration. Each can contains enough oxygen for 35 two-second inhalations, meaning each can lasts for roughly a week if it is used five or six times a day.

*Isn't Oxygen at high concentration will cause toxicity effect? That is why they mix nitrogen+oxygen in diving tank.

Seafood platter at Sophias. Drooolz...
The calamari rings were just right, there were enough prawns, there were enough scallops, enough fish. Dip it into that creamy tartare sauce, eat it while its hot (not too hot)... crunch crunch. By the way, if you haven't been to Sophia... you should. The servings are huge. I think we ordered medium size for this.

Ok.. new Lindt Chocolate. Creme Caramel. Who doesn't like creme caramel? YumYum.. very delicious pudding. Combine with chocolate? Perfect! Safeway on special now!!! Go get it! Around the same price as Cadbury you know!!! save $1.20 i think. Wow!!!!

Okay, this is really good. Connoisseur Gourmet Yoghurt. Caramelised Pear. MmmMMmm... the yoghurt is sooooo smooth, you get some bits of pears too. Btw, remember to stir and mix the yoghurt before eating... the caramels are underneath. MmmmMmmM!!!!!

This is good... recommended by Shi Ngar. For not coffee fan only. The coffee is not very strong, very light (perfect for me). Toblerone... made the whole thing taste and smell so good. Maybe i was hungry at that time... but ya.. its really good. It's creamy too... Yumss

In Monash, 3rd yr Biomedical Science students are required to do a mini-project. No more than 6 hours a day. This is when you experience the real lab-research working life and gain some extra knowledge. I find it really useful and interesting. You do stuffs you don't normally do in normal labs or studies. This semester, i got placed in Pharmacology Department in Monash Uni.. Which is what i really wanted. And I got Dr Richard Loiacono as my supervisor, who is a very funny and easy-going guy, patient, enthusiastic and is always ready to help you. All Perfect!
Hopefully next semester will be good. I'll either be placed in Alfred hospital or Monash Medical Centre. Another good 'real' hospital working experience. Love the way Monash Uni carries out the structure of this course. Trying to expose you to many biomedical technologies, knowledge.

People who smoke seems to have depression, did they self-medicate themselve?
Normal Antidepressants (imipramine/5-HT) kind of work but they take quite a while to cause some effect. The person could have killed himself by then.
How about the combination of Antidepressant+Nicotine?

Swim Swim Swim... If injected with Drugs, swim for 6 minutes. If it became depress, it'll stop swimming and float (give up). Don't worry, we don't drown them. Swim Test is a very common/useful way for testing the effect of anti-depressant drugs.

After a few days... boo hoo.. sorry guys, this is the so called Death Chamber.
Gas the mouse with Carbon Dioxide. Boo Hoo..
Then Leigh(PhD Student) did the rest.. (Killing, slashing, cutting, digging out the brain). I didn't take any picture. lol.
I did take a picture of Mickey's brain but i don't know where i put it. Oh well, its around the size of a pea, a bit bigger.

Freeze the brain and stick it on that thing... and start slicing it in i forgot. i think it was 40 micrometer. Very thin.
Then lay the specimen on a slide (u can see a lot of faulty specimens on slides at the right side of the picture.
Circled red is the brain. lol..
The slides are then further analysed for nicotinic receptors.
Since Mickey can't talk, I gotta slice his brain to see if the drugs were working.

The remnants of Mickey and his friends, the body parts are then given to MoMo...

Jk...

Snow White - Taste Sweet Love

I absolutely LOVE this show. It is sooooo Sweet... sweet sweet! But I think this show is only suitable for girls.
I really like the girl Kim Jung Hwa, she is nerdy and not that pretty in the first few epis of the drama, but you will see her slowly changing. She is actually very pretty. Natural Beauty too, no whatever Plastic Surgery. She is sooooooo funny and cute in this drama.
Girls must watch. lol... I haven't finished yet, I'm at episode 11 and i think its wondeful already. 16 episodes in total. Btw, i hope i don't raise up your expectation.
That guy, Lee Wan, he is a very talented singer and musician. He can play music very well =D

Pharmacology Practical

For people who've never seen an organ bath. Organ bath is the basics of pharmacology prac. This organ bath contains a guinea pig's ileum (small intestine). Tied onto a string with electrodes, bubbled with carbogen (like oxygen) in Holman Solution (solution that is able to keep the cells alive). Then you put drugs into the bath, and see its effect. Mainly for Muscurinic Receptors' experiments.
It is quite cool, when you put in ACh (a drug that makes the muscle contracts) you'll see that the ileum contracts and moves. hehehe... like trying to squeeze something.

Crabtree and Evelyn, i'm sure most of you who live in big cities know what shop this is. I think they originate from Europe and they sell nice lotion, room spray, body wash (a bit like Body Shop, but much 'classier')

LOOK! SARAWAK ok.... Very STRONG and flowery. Smells like.. i don't know..
I didn't like it anyway.
